My Hair... Straightened

It's been 16 months since my BC, and I finally got enough nerve to have my sister (she's a licensed hairstylist) straighten my hair. OK so I can't explain HOW she did this and explain techniques, etc. I'm no hair stylist and I had a hard enough time straightening my own hair when I was relaxed, let alone natural. I'm just showing you my length thus far and that getting my hair relaxed is so unnecessary. My hair is fuller/thicker than when I was relaxed, and she got it just as straight as when I was relaxed. My sister blow-dried my hair (using warm, not hot, heat) using something by a brand called Rusk - it was an anti-frizz type of product. She also used Moroccan Oil. After blow drying she flat ironed it with her Chi iron. That's it. No hot combs here. She also used some type of heat protectant, but I didn't get the name. I got my hair done on Saturday 2/20. It's holding up well, but it has not been humid. I just wrap it at night and tie it up in a satin scarf. Comb it down in the morning. I will probably wash it at the end of the week, but I will see :) After this, I don't plan to straighten it again this year. That's the plan, but we shall see. I definitely want to be careful with the heat and limit it as much as possible.

The votes have been counted!

The poll is officially closed and your votes have been counted :) I received a total of 26 votes. MOST of you want to see more hairstyles/how-to's. There was a tie between product reviews and encouraging/motivating posts. So, I will get ready to share more hairstyles with you! I haven't been trying much new lately, BUT over the extended weekend I did straighten my hair. I didn't take any pics of the results b/c I wasn't pleased w/my work (LOL). It wasn't straight enough for me, but I DID like the fullness, length, and healthy look that my hair had. So what I did was put in bantu knots on the straightened hair (I didn't two-strand twist first, FYI). I kept them in overnight. I also didn't add any products when I did the bantu knots. The next morning, I took them out and pinned one side up, to get the look that follows. Today I plan to re-wet my hair and deep condition, and try a new technique for a wash-and-go. Wish me luck!

My 1st Ever Crochet Item :)

I finally mastered the single-crochet stitch and made myself a little scarf :) Here's a pic:

Now I plan to learn the other different stitches and get more creative in what I make.

P.S. For those of you who follow me on Twitter, I'm a short but needed "Hiatus". I tweet WAY too much. I just need a little break to put some things into perspective. But I will be back, it's only for a few days, not more than a week, I promise!! LOL

Product Review: Giovanni 50/50 Conditioner

I recently tried the Giovanni 50/50 Conditioner, pictured here:

Here are the ingredients: Aqueous (water) extracts of *rosemary (rosmarinus officinalis) oil, *nettle (urtica dioica) oil, *thyme (thymus vulgaris) oil, birch leaf (butela alba) oil, *chamomile (anthemis nobilus flower) oil, *clary (salvia sclarea), *lavender (lavandula angustifolia), *coltsfoot leaf (tussilago farfara), *yarrow (achillea millefolium) oil, *mallow (malva sylvestris), *horsetail (equistetum arvense) oil, *soybean protein (glycine soja), tocopherol (vitamin E), acetamide MEA, cetyl alcohol (plant derived), trace minerals, citric acid (com), sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, grapefruit seed (citrus dervied).

*Certified organic ingredients.

No animal products and cruelty free.
 ************************************
As you can see, it is water based, which is a good thing. It has organic ingredients which are better for your hair than the "-cones" and mineral oil-based products you typically can get at local Beauty Supply Stores.

Here is how I used it: I washed my hair with Mixed Chicks Shampoo, which is really good at removing product build-up on your hair and scalp. Then I applied Giovanni 50/50 Conditioner to my hair in sections, detangling with a wide-tooth comb once I had the conditioner in my hair. Left in for about 5 extra minutes, then I rinsed it out. It has good slip so I liked that about it. However, after rinsing it out, my hair didn't feel as moisturized as when I use my Aubrey Organics or even my Herbal Essence Hello Hydration Conditioner. What I will probably do next time is use this in conjunction with my Aubrey Organics Conditioner when I deep condition. OR, I may add some olive oil to the Giovanni Conditioner and see how that works.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the best), I'd give this one a 7.
