I think that the older we get, the more we think about this question: What am I doing to change my life? For the better, of course. We all wake up, go to work for 8+ hours, come home, do whatever we need to do there (cook/take care of children/tend to spouse or significant other), get ready for bed, and do it all again the next day. And the day after that. I, myself, feel overworked and my personality does not allow me to be "happy" sitting in a cubicle all day for 5 days a week. Don't get me wrong, I have a great job, great managers, and the pay is pretty nice. I am truly grateful for that b/c so many are struggling now especially in this economy. What I am trying to get at is, why is this the "only" way of living? A "9-5"? I want to own my own business someday, so now is the time to move toward that goal. Each day I have to do SOMETHING to work toward that, because this just isn't fulfilling. Some people are happy with their 9-5/cubicle jobs, but I need something different. And I've found it in my home based business, which I am very excited about.
So, my question is... What are YOU doing to get the most out of your life, to be happy and what is your idea/definition of success? I'd love to hear your thoughts/opinions...

You Know I am truly, truly feeling this way. I am doing everything I can to explore any and all interests I may have. I know in my heart and soul that working in a cubicle is not the life for me! If we don't go after what truly motivates us we may never reach success. Success comes from, passion, drive and determination, happiness comes when you LOVE what you do not when the paycheck comes in! GREAT TOPIC!! ;)
Good stuff. I've been struggling with this for a while. I'm not happy with my job and have been searching for something else for a while. In the meantime, I wanted and needed something to keep me motivated. I needed a passion. Happiness loving what you do. Feeling good about life and about your day to day. Happiness is having something that keeps you going and keeps you looking forward to the next day.
My situation is a little different. I'm in grad school working on my PhD which has become extremely draining now that I'm in my 2nd year. Although I enjoy learning, it can be overwhelming doing the same routine of classes and lab work everyday. In order to not become discouraged I have to remind myself that this stage is just a stepping stone that will open up more opportunities to have the freedom to do what I truly want to do. I know God will get me through and it will be worth it all in the end : )
I say find your talent and use it! That's a great way to make money on your own. Even with the economy there are so many opportunities.
I'm in university and frankly it is boring and a waste of time, but I'm getting good grades and pushing myself because I know I will make my family happy; after I get my diploma, I would love to be a teacher. Although, I'm not stopping there. I love beauty and I would love to have a career (side hustle) in that, so I'll be going to school for that shortly after university & teacher's college.
Good Luck with your dreams
Thanks, Everyone! And Olivia, you sound similar to me. I went to a University and got my Bachelor's in Computer Science, but it's not my passion. I'm finally doing what I love to do, and that feels good! I'm "over" being afraid to do something different and do what makes me happy.
Best of luck with you, too, with your dreams! That goes for all of you!! :-)
