It's been 16 months since my BC, and I finally got enough nerve to have my sister (she's a licensed hairstylist) straighten my hair. OK so I can't explain HOW she did this and explain techniques, etc. I'm no hair stylist and I had a hard enough time straightening my own hair when I was relaxed, let alone natural. I'm just showing you my length thus far and that getting my hair relaxed is so unnecessary. My hair is fuller/thicker than when I was relaxed, and she got it just as straight as when I was relaxed. My sister blow-dried my hair (using warm, not hot, heat) using something by a brand called Rusk - it was an anti-frizz type of product. She also used Moroccan Oil. After blow drying she flat ironed it with her Chi iron. That's it. No hot combs here. She also used some type of heat protectant, but I didn't get the name. I got my hair done on Saturday 2/20. It's holding up well, but it has not been humid. I just wrap it at night and tie it up in a satin scarf. Comb it down in the morning. I will probably wash it at the end of the week, but I will see :) After this, I don't plan to straighten it again this year. That's the plan, but we shall see. I definitely want to be careful with the heat and limit it as much as possible.

Woop Woop!! Looking good lady!! I'm anxiously waiting for my year mark so I can start doing SOMETHING to my hair lol. I need to look into that Rusk product for my daughter! I've been looking for a protectant to use for when I'm blow drying her hair. When I straighten my daughter's hair I use my Chi irons as well! I wish flat-irons were around when I was a child lol. After I blow dry it, I moisturize it and then go over it again with the blow dryer just to make sure it's not too damp. A dab of grease here and there on the scalp, and Paul Mitchell gloss drops on the hair. :) I press her hair perhaps once every other month or so...and depending on how "active" (Or sweaty) she gets at school, it lasts a 4-5 days.
Beautiful sis, I love it! I can't wait until my hair is that long and full :-)
Awesome! Your hair looks great and look at all that growth in 16 short months. Who said our hair doesn't grow again?! I'm going to straighten my hair next month. I'll be 15 months natural in a couple weeks. :D
beautiful!! diva w/ straight and curly. ppl keep asking me to straighten, but i dont plan on doing it until my hair is super big, and then only once or twice
Thank you SO much, ladies. I really do appreciate your comments. @Milan, can't wait to see your hair when you do it! Be sure to let me know :)
@Stassi - I feel you! I was so nervous, I like it but I won't be doing this again for about another year. Back to my twist-outs by the end of the week!
Keeta, your hair looks amazing straight, but I'd also like to add it looks amazing when it's kinky, curly, twisted or styled any other way. It's really gotten long too.
Thanks, Metta! It was nice straight, but I prefer it in it's fully natural state. I only lasted 4 days w/the straight hair before I washed it out. LOL
