Ladies, what do you use to set your hair (twist-outs, braid-outs, roller sets, etc.)? Currently I use my Kinky Curly Knot Today Leave-In along with an oil to seal AND a product to hold (like ORS Lock and Twist Gel) but I am trying to minimize. Do any of you just use a leave-in and oil sealant ONLY? If so, please share with me what it is that you use :)
Thanks in advance!

I use SheaMoisture Curl Enhance Smoothie for my twists. This so far has been the ONLY thing to keep my hair from rebelling on me. Most people don't use it because of shrinkage but I fix that by stretching it w/ duck bill clips and then let it set and dry. Also, I use coconut oil to seal my hair while it's wet/damp ESPECIALLY my ends and I'm glad I started doing that because my twist outs come out looking AWESOME! Also, I retwist my hair with an aloe vera juice & coconut oil mix in a spray bottle and that helps it stay moisturized. But this has been the main thing I've done to my hair to keep it looking healthy and soft. Try to experiment on what works for your hair because I had to go through a trial and error phase and I finally found something that both me and my hair can easily agree with. Good luck!
Thanks so much for the tip! Last night I did a braidout using just Kinky Curly Knot Today and Argan Oil to seal, and that worked pretty well. I will keep experimenting to see what works best. I'll give Shea Moisture a try - I actually have the Curl Enhancing Smoothie but have to check the ingredients. If it has glycerin in it I'll have to wait til winter to use it. For some reason when it's humid and I use products with glycerin my hair frizzes like crazy.
no problem!
yea, that's what happens to most naturals and it does have glycerin so stick to what you know. But for some reason, no matter what the season, my hair NEEDS glycerin to keep it from frizzing and drying up. I try to find a heavier shea butter product in the winter time because my hair will rebel against the cold air with a quickness.
i've used kbn shealoe leave-in by itself or add some burnt sugar to seal :)
Currently I use Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Smoothie to moisturize, Garnier Fructis Cream Gel (provides shine and hold w/o the sticky, hard mess) and i seal my ends w/ shea butter/evoo mix. It works wonders on my twist outs...they last me an entire wk.
Thanks, ladies! :)
@Neesh I just purchased the Garnier Fructis Cream Gel -- I'm going to try it tonight.
I use Shea Moisture DTM. I don't seal because it has lots of oils/butters in it. It keeps my hair soft for days.
